Sean Royal

Artist Statement

I make things…lots of things. Whether it’s visual art or music, I try to create something original. I don’t have a specific style, but my approach is usually the same…..be present, forget most of what I think I know, improvise when necessary, don’t be afraid to screw something up, and create with purpose.

About the Artist

Sean Royal is a mixed media artist based in Carmichael, CA. He studied art at Sacramento City College and American River College. He started his art career painting with acrylic and oils, then moved to screen printing on copper and plexiglas. He has worked with found objects and recycled materials, as well as drift wood and steel. His work is unique and always evolving.

His current work is made with spray paint and wood. He paints individual wood panels one at a time, then arranges and assembles them to form one piece. The final pieces can be viewed as many individual paintings, or as one comprehensive whole. Either way, they show smaller realities within a larger one. The pieces feel reflective and calm, yet immediate and bold, and seem to contain a certain wisdom and history.

He has appeared in group shows and solo shows across California and Arizona. He plays drums in an improvisational band, approaches music and art the same way, and believes inspiration is everywhere, especially In The Now.
