I have been kayaking the American River since 1985 observing a certain stretch of the river. The animals, trees, rocks, and water as they shift and change over the years have quietly spoken a language revealing nature’s being. Visually there’s infinite material. No need to travel the world anymore, it’s all right here. My imagery has evolved throughout the years into a kind of Renoir-esque handling of the paint. The river’s horizontal format yields many abstract possibilities that the reflections amplify making for unlimited translations. My hope is to offer a field for people to also explore this language.
